“The New York street photographer searches for character amid the chain-store sterility of a vanishing city. Daniel Weiss, 30, has an eye especially attuned to chronicling the impressions of a coarser New York. Mr. Weiss grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and has traveled the city for years, snapping moments of urban serendipity, primarily in black and white. But he doesn’t merely stumble on them; he captures images of a fading New York through a technique of omission, excluding marks of modernity from his frame. “It’s as much about what I leave out as what I leave in,” he said.”
